The Cost of Kitchen Remodelling in Ontario

The Cost of Kitchen Remodelling in Ontario: What You Need to Know

Sometimes the budget has the final say when planning a new kitchen. If so, the average kitchen remodelling cost in Ontario breakdown in this article will help you determine your overall budget. Remember, these are averages, so the good news is there's always room for the price to go up or down.

  1. Destruction and removal

Clearing the kitchen for a complete renovation involves destroying the space and removing materials. The price of demolishing small kitchens is between 1000 and 3000 dollars. Large kitchens cost around $10,000 or more.

       2. Cabinet

Cabinets can occupy the most significant part of the kitchen renovation cost. For an average-sized kitchen (150 to 175 square feet), the average cost of cabinets is around $6,500, and prices vary by material and design.

A more affordable option is ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets, which come in standard sizes and are delivered flat-packed ($100 to $280 per linear foot). They are usually laminate or melamine; you can hire a skilled technician from Happy Construction to install them.

Semi-custom cabinets are a mid-range option in standard sizes, finishes, and styles. They usually have wood finishes and options like customizing the front and depth to make the closet shallower or more profound. They cost an average of $200 to $550 per foot.

Custom cabinets are usually made of hardwood and made to order. They offer complete design flexibility. You can determine from boxes and frames to doors and drawers. They cost an average of $500 to $1,500 per foot.

        3. Countertop, sink, and backsplash

The average cost of installing countertops is $2,500 to $3,500. The final price depends on the material of the countertop, sink, faucet and backsplash you choose.

Regarding budgeting for kitchen countertops, laminate is the most affordable material, which can cost as little as $14 per square foot. It has low maintenance. Natural stone and solid surfaces offer a luxurious finish at a mid-range price (starting at $51 per square foot), and marble is the more expensive option (around $150 or more per square foot(.

Backsplash also increases the budget accordingly. Sinks come in a range of finishes, from stainless steel ($400 to $1,000) to porcelain ($900 to $1,500), to composite granite ($800 to $5,000) or specialty metals such as copper and brass ($1,500 to $2,500). Custom marble sinks are more luxurious in design and, depending on the choice of marble and the size of the sink, have an additional price of $1,500, not including the installation fee.

       4. Lighting and electricity

Lighting fixtures are relatively easy to install and vary depending on the project's scope. Installing an attractive new pendant light above the island can cost less than $100. Depending on the province, replacing or upgrading an old electrical panel to power a new kitchen ranges from $600 to $2,100.

Pot lights are essential for task lighting in any kitchen, and a base light can cost as little as $25 before an electrician installs it. The average price of each morning, including installation, is $250. Installing six pot lights in a standard 250-square-foot kitchen costs about $1,500.

        5. Flooring

You have a lot of budget flexibility for kitchen floors. Vinyl and linoleum are the most affordable options. Vinyl costs $3.25 to $5 per square foot, and linoleum costs $4.35 to $6 per square foot, not including installation. The average cost per square foot for both professionally installed ranges from $2 to $6.

Hardwood floors are the most expensive option for wood at $6 to $15 per square foot. This durable option may also require a new subfloor, which can cost $1 to $3 per square foot, with professional installation costing an additional $4 per square foot.

       6. Plumbing

Kitchen plumbing costs vary widely, but the average is between $2,600 and $3,000. Layout changes, like moving the sink or dishwasher, will increase costs. New faucets can cost around $200. If combined with sink installation, you may get an installation discount. If you're not in the market for a new sink, refresh your existing sink with a moderately priced faucet. Chrome is the least expensive and can start at $50, but many designer-inspired finishes are becoming popular. For example, objective brass faucets average around $400 and cost $4,000 for luxury brands like Waterworks, Vola, Kallista, and THG Paris.

Installing new plumbing allows for options beyond a standard faucet. You can also add hand sprayer faucets and water purification systems, such as reverse osmosis. Of course, both need a hole in the counter. Sprayers cost up to $50, while the average reverse osmosis water system for the kitchen is $1,500.

       7. Painting

Painting is the most cost-effective option when it comes to having your kitchen cabinets updated by a professional. Cleaning, sanding, and painting the cabinets with a brush and roller cost $1,500 to $2,000.

An average cabinet treatment costs about $3,000 to $4,000, including hardware removal before prepping and painting with a brush and roller; you can reinstall old hardware or upgrade it with new styles. It is more expensive than painting because it costs money to remove the cabinets and all their hardware and then the time it takes to reinstall them. Just think of all those hinges and handles.

Spray painting kitchen cabinets is the most expensive option, costing $3,800 to $5,500 and involves removing the cabinets and spraying the area for a finished look. If you're painting the kitchen walls, the average cost is about $4 per square foot.

      8. Household appliances

For standard white appliances, expect to pay around $1,700 to $2,000 for the stove, refrigerator, dishwasher package and more for modern finishes like stainless steel or black. Different prices for a refrigerator range from $900 to $8,000, plus $650 to $2,000 for a gas stove and $400 to $2,500 for a dishwasher.

You'll need to pay significantly more for high-end appliances with features like intelligent technology or integrated custom cabinetry.

      9. Installation

If you're buying expensive appliances, add more to the budget. The installation cost varies from 2000 to 10000 dollars and is determined according to the size of the kitchen and the materials used. In general, this section includes the installation of cabinets, counters and household appliances. Many luxury brands like Wolf, Sub-Zero, Bosch and La Cornue have professionals who must personally install them to avoid voiding their warranty.

Tips to reduce the kitchen remodelling cost in Ontario

You've done all the research and are ready to start your renovation project. Here are some ways to effectively plan kitchen remodelling costs and stay on budget.

Get some quotes. Hear at least three sections so you have a reasonable basis for comparison. For example, Happy Construction is the ideal way to access trusted and insured contractors.

Assess what you need. "Consider how good or bad your current setup is," Sean says. "Changing the layout due to changing the kitchen model can use up the budget unnecessarily."

Judicious reuse of existing solid cabinets can refresh an old kitchen at a fraction of the cost of new cabinets.

My best tip is to set a budget based on all your research and stick to it. It sounds simple, but it's easy to be fooled by tempting (and expensive) upgrades.

You could make things better with quartz. You've researched and mastered finishes from matte black to unvarnished brass. Whatever you choose, you've decided to increase your home's resale value and enjoy it.
